Why I’m Loving Excel 2010

Excel 2010 is a powerful suite from MS Office that makes it cool to like spreadsheets again. Okay, so maybe I'm not the right person to ask about what's cool and what's on my usual Saturday night schedule.

Still, I like to think that I know at least a little about Office and what makes it the easiest and best for getting things down and done  – period.

When it comes to using Excel, organization is everything. That's why Excel 2010 is the most organized of the organizational tools in MS Office, and Sparklines is one of the new features in Excel 2010.

With Sparklines, you can create a set of small charts in a single cell to outline patterns in the data. This lets you zero in on trends in data so that you can work more quickly and with more clarity.

Along with Sparklines, Excel 2010 has a slew of new filtering enhancements to make it even easier to work with your data. A wicked little feature called Slicer lets you get a rich visualization of PivotTable and PivotChart views to segment and filter the data to display exactly what you need.

Skip the rest and focus in on what you need by “slicing” out the superfluous stuff.

The Microsoft Excel Web App is a feature that you can use to make running the show smoother. Through this app, you can edit your workbook in any web browser, even if you're away from your home or office computer.

And what's more, the app presents the data in a view that doesn't compromise how you experience the data, so your experience with Microsoft Excel stays as real and as awesome as you'd expect at home.

Conditional Formatting in Excel 2010 allows for more creativity with specific styles and functions for augmenting and boosting the appearance of your data. You can highlight particular cells in a couple of clicks, making it easier to format the cells you want while ignoring the cells you'd rather not remember.

So if you're like me, Excel 2010 is exciting. And with a pile of new features and new goodies, there are more reasons than ever to get excited about the fun with MS Office 2010.
