How To Freeze Column Headers in Excel







Here's a quick tip that can help prevent a bit of frustration when using Excel.  Many times when you are sorting or scrolling in Excel, the column headers will move along with the rest of your data.

To prevent your column headers (or really any row or column), select the row or column that comes after.  For example, to prevent the column headers in row 1 from moving:

1. Select row 2 by clicking "2" as shown in the screenshot below:Column Headers in Excel




2. With row 2 selected, go to the "Windows" menu and select "Freeze Panes"Freeze Column Headers




3. Your column header should now be locked in place and you will be able to sort and scroll without moving your column labels.  A line will show up which indicates which part of your workbook is frozen.
